Will you elect anyone to the office because you love and adore them or because they’ll bring change to this country?

As Kenya prepares for the next general elections scheduled to take place in August 2022, the race to be the country’s next President is hotting up by the day... Regardless of how strong their bids could be, the presidential aspirants could make life better or more difficult for the country.
Literacy levels being at an all-time high will be a decisive factor in the 2022 August general elections. Kenyans will elect their president not based on tribe, religion, or sympathy, rather Kenyans will elect on issue-based politics. The presidential ticket is the single most important ticket in Kenya. Therefore, every leader running for the ticket must be evaluated by Kenyans before being elected. One such issue is climate change; climate change is a major factor affecting every Kenyan from every corner of the country. One thing we have learnt from history is that little things/actions we do, goes along way in either affecting our environment negatively or positively, hence we all need to check on that.
Climate change affects agriculture, and in Kenya, agriculture is the backbone of our economy. The Kenyan shilling strength depends on sales of tea, horticulture, avocado, macadamia, livestock, coffee, and sisal. So if climate change affects agricultural production negatively in the country, then the Kenyan shilling weakens as a result. Weakening of the shilling causes inflation to rise in the country. Thereby; affecting Kenyans directly due to a higher cost of living. So, only leaders that embrace a circular economy should be considered for election to be president by Kenyans. The contribution of individual leaders to the environment and their contribution towards #climatechange must be a key factor to be considered in eliminating the front runners for the Kenyan presidential ticket. Kikao Eco-Wild highly encourages the youth to take part in political issues. We should find a way to understand politics, so as to push for the change we need for climateaction. As well as be able to push for accountability among our leaders. Most importantly, elect leaders that acknowledge the urgency of green politics.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." ~ Margaret Mead
When the youth join hands it's easier for aggregation of ideas to create a greater impact and change. If our leaders fail to act then the youth need to take charge to become leaders driven by a strong commitment to act on #climatechange.
